It Don’t Mean a Thing without a Ring: Think Twice about Moving in Together before Marriage

If you’ve spent your entire adult life struggling to find the perfect roommate, moving in with your significant other might seem like an answer to your prayers. You like the same foods, television shows and music. You even share a bedtime! Best of all, you’re in love, and when trying to maintain a household love is all you need, right?

Unfortunately, according to some experts moving in with your significant other before you are married could actually lead to a break up and divorce down the road. How could that be? Isn’t part of the reason that couples move in together before their wedding day to give the whole marriage thing a test drive?  It turns out that moving in with your significant other may start out as a test drive but quickly turn into a trap. One or both partners want to leave the relationship but they feel trapped because of their new living situation. After a while it becomes easier to settle and get married than it would be to leave.
